The former BA 200 of Apt-St-Christol was supporting the 1er GMS, the French ICBM force. The site, with all its missile launching silos, was better known as the "Plateau d'Albion". An armée de l'Air helicopter squadron (EH 4/67 "Durance") was the sole flying unit permanently stationned on the BA 200, from 1975 to its disbandment in 1998, after the French ICBM nuclear force was decomisionned. Today the site hosts a French Foreign Legion regiment, and you can even overfly it without putting yourself at risk of being shot at anymore!
