The last emperor of Austria-Hungary, Charles I, visited an airfield at Levico Terme in South Tyrol, then still in Austria. Fokker B.III was the Austrian designation of the Fokker M.18, German army designation D.I. In April 1916, Fokker sent the M.18 prototype to Austria entirely on his own initiative - personnel at Vienna - Aspern only learnt of this when it arrived, but the type was accepted as an advanced trainer. Including the prototype, 17 were supplied by Fokker - with 04 serials - and eight built by MAG in Austria. Photo from: Fortepan / Österreichische Nationalbibliothek
