This C-54 was delivered to the USAF in July 1945 and transferred to the 12th AF, Mediterranean Theater of Operations. It returned to the USA the following year and spent the rest of its service life at various bases around the US. It was eventually retired in January 1970 and ferried to Offutt AFB for preservation. It has now been beautifully restored and is on display at the super Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum at Ashland. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
