Erected today on a roundabout at the site of the former RAF Thornaby. The markings on the starboard side commemotare 608 Sqn, RAuxAF. Those on the port side, BM481, code YO-T, commemorate 401 Sqn, RCAF. The Thornaby Spitfire is erected in recognition of Thornaby's aviation heritage.
