This KC-97 was accepted by the USAF in April 1955 and was assigned to the 71st Air Refueling Squadron, 397th Bombardment Wing (Heavy) at Dow AFB, ME. Its final flight was in September 1964 when it was ferried to the SAC Museum at Offutt AFB. During refurbishment it was fitted with the tail section of 53-0310, which was scrapped at St Joseph, MO., and is now on display at the super Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum at Ashland. The CH-21B Workhorse hanging from the roof is 52-8676. This photo is copyright © Alastair T. Gardiner, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
