Rathmines was an RAAF flying boat base on Lake Macquarie near Newcastle. The base closed in 1956 but the alighting area and sometimes the base, which has been preserved, are visited by seaplanes. Macquarie Air Service was based at the inland town of Bathurst 200km away the Macquarie a reference to the river on which the city sits. VH-ADS was ex RNZAF, which used it on floats at times. Still current, it has been has been on wheels for over 40 years. This photo is copyright © Geoff Goodall, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
