Modern helicopters are so boring in comparison to this work of art - just beautiful! The Hermeskeil museum is super and well worth a visit for the variety of aircraft on offer (and as you can see not covered in many layers of unauthentic paint either).

This is one of two Mi-4 helicopters preserved as part of the outdoor exhibit at the Polish Aviation museum.

The Mil Mi-4 was one of the first helicopters capable of lifting significant loads, such as 14 troops. Note the machine gun in the ventral gondola. The rotorless example is a naval version equipped with search radar

The flag marking presumably represents the Hungarian Uprising of 1956. The real No 27 (c/n 1027) crashed in October 1957. This is in fact an East German machine, 534.

Entered Czechoslovak service with a liaision squadron in 1974.

Exhibited at the excellent Monino museum near Moscow.
