Originally built as Canadair CL-13A Sabre 5 RCAF serial 23283 and modified as a QF-86E by Flight Systems Inc., at Mojave. The RCAF serial is said to have been adopted by the US Army when the aircraft was being used on their funded programs, although at the same it was registered N2290Z.

Delivered to the RCAF as CL-13A Sabre Mk.5 23331 in 1954. Sold and trucked to Moncton-McEwen Field for storage around 1972. To Flight Systems as N46901 and converted to a QF-84E target drone in 1984 then cancelled from the register a few weeks before this photo was taken. Probably shot down.

Originally built for RCAF with serial 23203. Acquired and operated by Flight Systems Inc. from 1977 through 1983. Converted by FSI into a QF-86E target drone for use by the US Army at the White Sands Missile Range. It survived that, and in 1983 was retired by FSI and the FAA registration expired in June 1983.

Former Royal Canadian Air Force CL-13 Sabre Mk5 with serial 23283 continued carrying its Canadian serial after conversion to QF-86E and when assigned to the US Army from 1980. It is here seen at Mojave (CA). The Sabre was also civil registered between 1978 and 1984 as N2290Z with Flight Systems at Mojave (CA).

Shot down at White Sands Missile Range on August 29, 1980

This is Canadian aircraft was painted in USAF markings when it flew with the Pacific Military Air Museum in Oakland, California but by the time of the photo it was operated by Flight Systems as a drone. Withdrawn from use in 1983 and latter seen at the EAA Museum, Oshkosh.

Sold to Fighter Imports, Chino, in 1989. Registration cancelled in 2013.

An ex-RCAF Sabre, still with its Canadian serial, but now owned by the US Army for their QF-86E program. It is being prepared by Flight Systems Inc for use as a QF-86E target drone. The aircraft was registered to Flight Systems Inc as N5592D on 28 March 1980.
