Powered by three 420-hp R-975 Whirlwind engines, the wooden Pander S.4 had a top speed of some 360 km/h (224 mph) and was designed to carry 500 kg of mail. Its clean lines were somewhat spoilt by its 'park bench' ailerons and tailplane struts. The sole example crashed during the MacRobertson London to Melbourne Air Race in October 1934. The wooden Postjager mailplane, renamed Panderjager for the 1934 MacRobertson Air Race, is seen at Allahabad, India with a bent left propeller, having suffered a left main gear collapse on landing on 21 October, the second day of the race. It was able to depart on the 26th but crashed into an unlit vehicle on take-off and was destroyed. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum

Only one aircraft of the type was built as a dedicated mailplane. It was designed to compete with the KLM mail services to N.E. Indies. With tail #6 it entered the famous McRobertson air race in 1934, but it was destroyed by fire after hitting an unlit tractor at Allahabad during its take off at night. The location is an educated guess.
