The YH-32 looks like a Walt Disney design. The US Army received 14 YH-32s from 1954, but all were out of service by late 1957. The US Navy got another three examples with the HOE-1 designation.

The Hiller HJ-1 Hornet was used to test the use of a jet-powered helicopter using ramjets. It was evaluated by the United States Army as the YH-32. 18 were built. The concept was considered to be outdated and the program was cancelled.

The #2 prototype which is now displayed in the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos, CA.

First flown in 1950, the Horrnet light helicopter was propelled by rotor tip-mounted ramjets. It suffered from very high fuel consumption and noise levels. This example was also registered as N3781G and is on loan from the Classic Rotors Museum, Victorville, to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

In the slide the fiberglass fuselage is removed, with the tail boom extended to the left. The YH-32 was powered by a Hiller 8RJ2B ramjet mounted on each rotor blade tip. It had high fuel consumption which led to poor range, and it was very noisy. It did, however, have a powerful lifting capacity. This a/c is now on display at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, WA.
