This is a replica of the Bellanca CH-400 Special Model J in which Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon, Jr. made the world's first nonstop flight across the Pacific Ocean from Misawa, Japan to Wenatchee, Washington on Oct 4, 1931. In 1998 the Spirit of Wenatchee organization was formed to build a flying replica for 100 Years of Powered Flight celebrations in 2003. Much of the work was done by members of EAA Chapter 424 based in Wenatchee. In 2005, a crew flew the Bellancato Eastern Canada and stopped at the Toronto Aerospace Museum located in an old DHC factory at Downsview Airport, Toronto, ON. Photographer: Charles Kadin.
