Many aircraft wrecks from WWII are known to lie in the waters of the Mediterranean along the 250 km coastline between Marseille and Nice. This wreck was recovered in good condition, with only the tail section missing, from the sea-bed at a depth of 90 m in 1989. This Ju-87 from St.G. 101 ditched into the sea in 1944 after a mid-air collision with Ju 87 B-1, Wk. Nr. 0270, No human remains were found in the cockpit and, as the throttles were set to zero, it is assumed that the crew were safely able to exit the plane on the water. Unfortunately their bodies were never recovered.
