The aircraft was substantially damaged when it crashed during departure from Placerville Airport (KPVF) on March 31, 2019. It appears that the aircraft lost power during the climb. After the pilot turned to the crosswind leg, the engine began to run rough. The issue did not seem fixable and the pilot decided to return to the airport. the aircraft was at 1500-2000ft above the ground at that point. The pilot was unable to maintain altitude and landed about 300ft short of runway 23. A photo shows the aircraft tangled up in vegetation.
