Twenty-nine B-52s landed 8-9 July 1972, diverting from Guam due to typhoon Rita. Rita passed Guam and then hit Okinawa, looping the island before moving off to the northwest. The typhoon caused some damage to the FRD-10 where I worked. I was on typhoon watch at that facility at the time. On July 8 a B-52 crashed into the ocean off Guam where the crew were rescued by a Navy SSN.
