The second prototype Bell 429 was registered by Bell Canada on April 11, 2007 and made its first flight at the Mirabel, Quebec factory shortly afterwards. It was visiting Kingston, Ontario on July 30, 2012 to conduct avionics test flights at the airport using approach aids that were no longer available at any airport near the factory in Quebec. This aircraft was modified in 2018-2019 with Bell's experimental electrically driven anti-torque (EDAT) system featuring four electric fans that replaced the 429's mechanical tail rotor drive system. The 429 EDAT system first flew on May 23, 2019.
