Good to see this machine presented with its correct markings. Built at the WSK factory at Mielec in 1953 and delivered to the Polish AF 29th Fighter Regiment as a Lim-1, it was rebuilt as a two-seat Lim-1SB trainer in the late 1950s. Further upgrades in 1974 brought it up to Lim-2 standard. After being exported to the US in the 1980s it was used by civilian contractors on behalf of the USAF for research projects, being retired to Davis Monthan around 1990.

This aircraft was acquired by the U.S. Air Force in the 1980s and flown by civilian contractors for research projects conducted by the Defense Test and Evaluation Support Agency at Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Apparently retired to storage at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona around 1990. In July 1992 it was placed on loan to the Pima Air & Space Museum from the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
