The original Junkers A50 was first flown in February 1929 and 69 were built. The new, modernised A50 by Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG is certified to fly as an Ultralight and production, started in 2022, includes modern avionics, a Rotax engine, composite propeller and ballistic parachute. Plans are in place to produce the aircraft in the US where it is certified in the Special Light Sport Aircraft category.
