Built as a military Lockheed PV-1 Ventura, initially USN 34880, then diverted from an RAF order as FP841 to the SAAF, serving as 6441. Executive conversion carried out by Howard Aero Inc to Howard 500 standard with a new pressurised fuselage and uprated engines. Seen in transit at Prestwick parked in the Main Terminal's old Bay 4. Arrived from Geneva and departed transatlantic, initially for Keflavik.

This Howard 500 was a very unusual visitor to Heathrow's southside on a typically dull January day in 1974. It ended it's days in Mexico as FP-0214 after being impounded in a drugs operation. Scanned from a slide.

A converted Lockheed PV-1 Ventura, taxying along Heathrows southern taxiway, block 94/97 where Terminal 4 is now. The Howard 500 had a pressure cabin which spoilt the cockpit lines but gave it over the weather capabilities. Uprated DC-6B type engines were fitted which took the max cruise up to about 359 mph.
