Delivered new 3rd Apr 1961 and to Viasa as YV-131C 10th Nov 1975

Ex PH-DCI, registered 10th Nov 1975

Ex Viasa aircraft in the process of being broken up. Since it has lost a lot of weight, there is some hurricane-protection on the wings.

To complement my upload of this DC-8 as PH-DCI with KLM, her owner from delivery in 1961, here she is with Viasa resting under the blue sky at her home base. Acquired by Venezuela's national airline in 1975, she survived another five years after this shot (I think taken from the boarding bus) on my first visit to Caracas, where I later enjoyed a great ramp tour

After her first 14 years spent with KLM as "Sir Isaac Newton", this DC-8 was sold to Viasa in 1975. Although bought by Aeronaves del Peru in 1984, she remained in store at Opa-locka as was broken up next year. We take for granted nowadays a choice of views to shoot thanks to zoom lenses, but it occurs to me that the angle here was forced by my old fixed 200mm
