846 Squadron. On the night of May 19, 1982, whilst transferring SAS troops from HMS Hermes to HMS Intrepid and awaiting its turn to land, the tail rotor was struck by a large bird. The helicopter ditched, rolled and sank some 200 miles ENE of Port Stanley, Falkland Islands.
