A69-7213 was one of 24 F-4Es leased by the RAAF to cover delays in the delivery of its General Dynamics F-111s. The A69 prefix was issued out of sequence (the F-111s were A8 and the highest prefix a the end of 2017 was A54) for administrative purposes only and never applied to the aircraft. -7213 was returned to the USAF in October 1972 and later modified into an F-4G. It was lost on a training mission when it flew into Mount Moncayo, Spain on March 13, 1980. Peter Ricketts photo
