A69-7213 was one of 24 F-4Es leased by the RAAF to cover delays in the delivery of its General Dynamics F-111s. The A69 prefix was issued out of sequence (the F-111s were A8 and the highest prefix a the end of 2017 was A54) for administrative purposes only and never applied to the aircraft. -7213 was returned to the USAF in October 1972 and later modified into an F-4G. It was lost on a training mission when it flew into Mount Moncayo, Spain on March 13, 1980. Peter Ricketts photo This photo was added on 14 January 2018, and has since been viewed 1239 times. |
