In the spring of 1934, Avia was ordered to produce a plane so that Czechoslovak pilots could participate in the international aerobatic competition Coupe Mondiale held at Vincennes. The B.122, was the result and despite the very short notice, the Czechoslovaks placed very well in the competition. Following their suggestions for improvement Avia came up with the Ba-122. This replica is made from many original parts and is on display at the Letecké Muzeum Kbely.

The beautiful Avia B-122 was quickly developed for an international aerobatic competition held in Paris in 1934, and it was quite succesful. 60 examples of this dedicated aerobatic aircraft were built, the improved Ba.122 version having a larger rudder and ailerons on both wings. 45 Bš-122 military trainers were also built for the Czechoslovak air force.
