This O-2 was built for James McKee in 1926 as the O-2BS (O-2B Special), civil registered as NC236, to make the first single-plane flight across Canada. Following his succesful flight, it was modified as a three-seater with a 410 hp P&W Wasp A engine and redesignated MO-2B. After McKee died in a crash the aircraft was taken on charge in Aug.1927 by the Canadian Air Force as G-CYZG (using civil-style G-CYxx registrations at the time) and was operated as a high-altitude photographic survey aircraft. In Jan.1930 it was struck off charge. Shirleys Bay seaplane base was opened as it was difficult to get seaplanes up the steep river bank to Rockcliffe base. It closed when this problem was overcome.
