Stored with several other ex RAF Canberras after their withdrawal from service. Tail stands are in place, probably to keep the aircraft on an even keel after removal of their engines. The aircraft depicted on the airfield traffic sign is clearly a Canberra also!

The fifth production Vampire soon after completion by English Electric at Samlesbury near their Preston works complex. EEC built nearly 1300 Vampires between 1945 and 1952. The Goblin in TG278 was replaced by a Ghost and extended wings fitted. On 23 March 1948, DH test pilot John Cunningham set a world altitude record of 59,446 feet. Obtained from EEC over 50 years ago.

Taken on charge by the RAF in 1.54 as WE191, this Canberra went back to BAe in 2.78 to be prepared for the Indian AF, but was never delivered. The fuselage is now preserved at the Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum, while the starboard wing was fitted to Canberra T.17 WH665 dumped at Filton in 1988 (was due to be sunk as a diving wreck). Others in this view from left are T.4 WT488 (b/u Dunsfold 99), TT.18 WJ721 (nose pres. Scotland) and probably TT.18 WE122 (to FRADU, nose in Suffolk) at right
