An old coal yard at St Pancras railway station in London was officially made an RAF station for the Daily Mail Trans-Atlantic Air Race between the Post Office Tower and the Empire State Building in New York. XV741 flew westbound and XV744 eastbound, but the winner rode a Royal Navy Phantom between Floyd Bennett Field and Wisley airfield.
