Rare wartime picture of a Stinson Vigilant, one of the few operated by the RAF. This may well be the Vigilant used by Canadian general Harry Crerar, since his troops fought in the nearby Reichswald in March 1945. Detail of a photo of a Dakota nose. Fliegerhorst Venlo was built partially in Germany and partially in the Netherlands as a Luftwaffe night fighter base. After liberation the airfield was returned to nature, though in the German part the Budeswehr still occupies a part of the dispersal area. The control tower near the outskirts of Venlo survives to date and is used by the local mountaineering club.
