The basic airborne early warning variant of the Sea King was hastily developed during - but too late for - the Falklands War. Many moons later seven machines were upgraded to Sea King ASaC7 standard.

This plane has a couple of original parts according to the friendly owner, and an interesting story. When the Union Jack on British military aircraft was allegedly mistaken for German crosses, the French roundel was adopted. The colours were soon inverted, but this took longer in the navy and the Scout served in these markings in the Dardanelles in 1916. Amazingly an unsynchronized machine gun was fitted, despite the danger of blowing off one's own propeller!

A very low cloud base cancelled almost all flying at the Culdrose Air Day, but some returning Hawks of No 736 Sqn did find their way to base.

Used for ground handling training on the dummy deck here, pending arrival of the F-35B and the Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers, this non-airworthy Harrier is seen making a taxi run at the Culdrose Air Day. The cloud base was so low that there was almost no flying anyway.

Operated by The Gazelle Squadron. Painted in the colours of No 2 FTS at Shawbury, to which this helicopter was originally delivered on 13 July 1982.
