The Dutch government sent a squadron of Hunters, one of which is seen in the background, to Mokmer airfield on Biak Island to defend Netherlands New Guinea against the Indonesians. In 1961 two Tiger Moths arrived to serve as glider tugs, probably because NNG offered little entertainment for off-duty personnel. A-4 still wears its RAF serial PG685 on the fin. Abandoned with Dutch withdrawal late 1962. Sold to Philippines in 1964. To N1300D in 1965. Still current at time of upload with FAA listing a wrong c/n, 86504. Thanks to Malcolm Fillmore for his information. Photo from: Nederlands Instituut voor Militaire Historie This photo was added on 8 August 2019, and has since been viewed 572 times. |
