The Excalibur 800 inscription on the cowling refers to a modification designed by Ed Swearingen (of Merlin/Metro fame) that installs two 400 hp, 8-cylinder engines in place of the standard 6-cylinder units. This one was originally built for the US Army as 62-3853 and was imported ex N4035X and registered on 8 September 1995 to Knee Lake Air Service. The rough and tumble life of bush flying probably didn't suit it as it was restored to the US in May 1996.
