After its third successful unpowered flight SpaceShipTwo is being towed back to the hangar. Unfortunately on October 31, 2014, the VSS Enterprise, a SpaceShipTwo experimental spaceflight test vehicle operated by Virgin Galactic, suffered a catastrophic in-flight breakup during a test flight and crashed in the Mojave Desert near Cantil, California. One pilot was killed and the other seriously injured. This photo is copyright © Gerhard Plomitzer, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
