This four engine Farman was initially ordered by Air France and requisitioned by French air force at the begining of WW2. It crashed into the Mediterranean Sea while on a flight from Marseille to Damascus. On board was the newly-appointed Vichy High Commissioner to Lebanon and Syria, M. J. Chiappe, his secretary and 5 crew members including the two famous French pilots H.Guillaumet & M.Reine; The airplane was hit by machine-gun fire in battle zone of Cape Spartivento involving British and Italian naval ships.
