From the late 1950s the real NZ918 was in this playground, but in Oct. 2015 it was replaced by this fibreglass full scale model, built by David "Biggie" Smith, a Taranaki surfboard maker. The original one had corroded so much that it was getting to the point that it was unsafe. This photo is copyright © Dick Lohuis, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
