This is the actual NZ918, replaced by a fibreglass replica in 2015 due to corrosion. Service club Jaycees converted NZ918 into playground equipment in 1963 with an entry ladder below the rear cockpit and a slide under the nose. Effort was later made to correct the rudder shape but it remained less accurate than the replica. NZ918 can now be seen at nearby Mangatainoka where is mounted on a gimbal and acts a weather vane still with the inaccurate rudder. Photo from: Des White/Air Force Museum of New Zealand

From the late 1950s the real NZ918 was in this playground, but in Oct. 2015 it was replaced by this fibreglass full scale model, built by David "Biggie" Smith, a Taranaki surfboard maker. The original one had corroded so much that it was getting to the point that it was unsafe.
