This photo shows a rare one-only version of the DC-6, with four-bladed Curtiss Electric props. They were intended as a replacement for the regular three-bladed Curtiss props on their DC-6s and Convair 240s, which suffered from severe hub cracking problems. However, prior to making a fleet-wide replacement, American decided to switch to the then-new high-activity Hamilton Standard propellers. This photo is copyright © William T.
