While substantially renovated in 2000, Edmonton was already operating at 20% above capacity in 2008, being Canada's fastest growing airport at the time. The answer was the Expansion 2012 program, including the new office and control tower structure. As the architect bureau describes it: 'The design vision for the Tower project is to create a memorable first and last impression for Edmonton; one that expresses its sense of place and its people.'
