On display at the Museum of Flight. This razorback P-47D was built at Farmingdale in 1942 and delivered to the USAAF with s/n 42-8205. It went to Fuerza Aérea Boliviana around Nov 1949. After serving as a gate guardian, it was recovered from La Paz for restoration. "Big Stud" is painted in the markings of six-victory ace Col. Robert L. Baseler, CO from Jul 1943 to Apr 1944 of 325th FG in the MTO. The unit wore the distinctive black and yellow checkertail on its P-40s, P-47s and P-51s. The Curtiss Electric propeller hub, modified cowl flaps and bulged fuselage keel can be seen. This photo is copyright © Arjun Sarup, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
