Line up of F-4Ds from the 23rd TFS, which, although assigned to the 36th TFW, was based at nearby Spangdahlem AB. In December 1971, the 52nd TFW assumed control over the 23rd TFS. This particular aircraft crashed on 4 March 1981, after a mid-air collision with another F-4D, both operated by the 401st TFW, near Madrid, Spain.
