First flown in 1926, the A.23 airliner was of a rather conservative biplane configuration with a dorsal open cockpit. The prototype had its landing gear modified as shown by May 1928. Six series aircraft were not delivered until 1928. The type was used on ČSA's longest domestic run, Prague to Uzhorod (now in Ukraine) via Brno.
