This Curtiss A-1 Triad replica was one of two constructed in San Diego in 1961 for the 50th Anniversary of Naval Aviation. This one is a non flying exact replica, using the same materials as the original A-1 including an original Curtiss 75 HP V-8 engine. The other was a flying replica, which had some modifications for safety reasons, as it was flown in the 1961 anniversary airshow over San Diego Bay. The flying replica was lost in the San Diego Air & Space Museum fire in 1978. This photo is copyright © Bob Thomas, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
