This Curtiss A-1 Triad replica was one of two constructed in San Diego in 1961 for the 50th Anniversary of Naval Aviation. This one is a non flying exact replica, using the same materials as the original A-1 including an original Curtiss 75 HP V-8 engine. The other was a flying replica, which had some modifications for safety reasons, as it was flown in the 1961 anniversary airshow over San Diego Bay. The flying replica was lost in the San Diego Air & Space Museum fire in 1978.

Second of only 2 replicas of this type. Ordered 8 May 1911, the A-1 Triad was the Navy's first aircraft and one of the earliest hydroaeroplanes (floatplane). Built with retractable landing gear, the A-1 could operate from land, sea and air. The Navy used the A-1 for early training and aviation experiments, including the first attempted catapult launch
