When the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland was dissolved in 1963, there were significant changes also in the airlines of the region. Central African Airways had been the federation's airline. Coming out of that airline, Zambia Airways, Air Malawi, and Air Rhodesia were established in the following years. CAA remained as a holding company and operated the aircraft on behalf of the three airlines. The actual operator was shown below the tail with interchangeable signs.
