CP Air's first 747 diverted due to fog. In the days of major pulp mills on the Southern BC coast aiding fog formation and before CAT III approaches, closure of Vancouver International airport due to weather was more common. CP Air would organize a near by "Abbotsford operation" to run many of their flights. The "Empress of Japan" would later go to Pakistan International Airlines in a deal that saw CP's 747-217s traded for PIA's DC-10-30s.
