An interesting visitor to the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's National Fly-in was this Beech D18S. This aircraft was originally built in 1949 as a bombing trainer for the Chinese Nationalist Air Force in Taiwan. It was later transferred to Far Eastern Air Transport in Taipei where it was 'civilianised' and used on clandestine flights on charter to the CIA's Air America. When first imported to Australia in 1973, the airframe exhibited several patched bullet holes! This photo is copyright © Phil Vabre, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
