This is the fuselage of the second of two XF-90 a/c built. After two years of flight testing it was retired to the Nevada Test Site. There, it was subjected to three atomic bomb tests in 1952. Recovered by the USAF Museum, part of the decontamination process included removing all rivets in order to purge radioactive sand particles. The XF-90 is located in the restoration hangar and is not on display. This photo is copyright © Bob Thomas, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
