Having survived three nuclear bomb blasts at the Nevada Test Site, the second prototype XF-90, suitably decontaminated, now serves to demonstrate the effects of these weapons in the Nuclear Deterrence exhibit at the NMUSAF.

This is the fuselage of the second of two XF-90 a/c built. After two years of flight testing it was retired to the Nevada Test Site. There, it was subjected to three atomic bomb tests in 1952. Recovered by the USAF Museum, part of the decontamination process included removing all rivets in order to purge radioactive sand particles. The XF-90 is located in the restoration hangar and is not on display.
