This is a rare Mitsubishi G3M2 bomber, converted for passenger use as a so-called Mitsubishi Two-Engined Transport. It is seen here arriving at Oakland from Seattle, and would later depart for Los Angeles, while on a round-the-world good will flight, sponsored by the Japanese Mainichi newspaper. The aircraft departed Japan on 26 Aug 1939 and returned there on 20 Oct 1939, via North America, South America, Africa, Europe and Asia, travelling a total distance of 52,886 km (32,862 miles) in 55 days (194 flight hours).
