Flying this OS2U from the USS Indiana, Lt. j.g. Rollin M. Batten Jr. was awarded the Navy Cross for rescuing two downed aircrew under heavy Japanese fire on 4th July, 1944. The aircraft was earmarked for preservation in 1947 and, after a difficult five year restoration, is now on display at the Smithsonian NASM Udvar-Hazy Center. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
