During a squadron rotation with the RAF 56sq, four Aeronautical Militare F-104S of Grosseto air base were present. Not the very best picture, as it was typical UK weather. Note, the small unusual 1 added to the code. This MM6778, built by Fiat Aviazione/Aeritalia The Sparrow was written off at Leeuwarden air base (the Netherlands) on 2 May 2002 during its landing. The aircraft was probably too high duyring its landing attemped, broke in two pieces and came to rest alongside the runway. The pilot escaped with only minor injuries.
