The Maple Leaf II was a new design although similar in layout to the Maple Leaf I, which was had began as the Wallace Trainer. The Wallace was sold to CCF before it had flown. The RCAF rejected the Maple Leaf II and it, plus two incomplete aircraft, jigs and blueprints, was sold to the Mexican air force. It built 10 as the Ares 2.
